Wrapping Up 2025 and Looking Ahead to 2026 for LGBTQ+ Families
This last day of 2025 has us looking back on our four decades of fighting for LGBTQ+ families. And we at Family Equality have accomplished so much…
- We won our long fight for freedom to marry.
- We secured federal workplace benefits for LGBTQ+ families.
- We led a coalition of nearly 150 organizations that secured protections in dozens of states to ensure LGBTQ+ parents who want to foster or adopt kids can not be turned away.
- We created policies and practices that protect LGBTQ+ families in schools, healthcare settings, and child welfare agencies.
- We established what has grown to the largest gathering of LGBTQ+ families in the world — Family Week.
- We earned the historic win against Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay and Trans” law.
- And one of our proudest accomplishments is what DIDN’T happen in those years…
- Thanks to the Family Equality team and our partners, hundreds of anti-LGBTQ+ laws never saw the light of day.
But what did we do in 2025?
But wait. There’s more.
- We brought the stories of LGBTQ+ families to the Supreme Court through our amicus brief for Mahmoud v Taylor.
- We released a new-and-improved resource library on our redesigned website to provide families with the support they need to navigate this uncertain political climate.
- We collaborated with the Campaign for Southern Equality and GLAD Law to launch Why Marriage Matters, a movement-wide campaign to reframe the narrative on marriage equality and preserve our progress.
Imagine what we can accomplish with your support!
