Nearly 500 Families from Around the Globe Attend Family Equality’s 32nd Annual Family Week in Provincetown
Over 1,500 individuals gathered in Provincetown for the largest annual gathering of LGBTQ+ families in the world
Provincetown, MA — From July 25 to August 1, Family Equality, the leading national organization for LGBTQ+ families, welcomed nearly 500 families and more than 1,500 individuals from 30 states and nine countries to Provincetown, Massachusetts for a week of critical celebration, support, and connection.
Founded as a gathering of a couple dozen LGBTQ+ families in 1994, Family Week, co-hosted by Family Equality along with COLAGE, a national nonprofit by and for those with LGBTQ+ parents, in Provincetown has grown into a week-long international gathering with events from sunrise to sunset. This year’s festivities included:
- Beloved Family Week events such as the annual Beach Bash (presented by the CARE WITH PRIDE® initiative) and daily gatherings for parents and children to find community and connection that will continue all year-round,
- Pockets of queer joy at Drag Story Hour with Tara Hoot, the annual Family Pride pride, BBQ cookouts, breakfasts, and pool parties,
- Family Day — a day-long celebration of LGBTQ+ families featuring dancing, inflatables, and more to honor Indiana family, the Carmagos with the inaugural Family Champion Award, presented by José Rolón for their extraordinary advocacy, leadership, and dedication to advancing equality and belonging for LGBTQ+ families
- Moments of reflection from yoga with the family to two special events with partners at the American LGBTQ+ Museum, including a Queering the Family Tree workshop and portrait sessions,
- Opportunities to learn more and get involved in Family Equality’s year-round advocacy work through expert panels with Darra Gordon (CEO, Family Equality), Luce Remy (Vice President of Public Policy, Family Equality), Nikhil Vashee (Senior Director of Education Law and Policy, Family Equality), Patience (Polly) Crozier (Director of Family Advocacy, GLAD Law), Mimi Demissew (Executive Director, Our Family Coalition), Dr. David Johns (CEO and Executive Director, National Black Justice Coalition), Ricardo Martinez (Executive Director, GLAD Law), Jordan Wilson (Executive Director, COLAGE)
Registrations were up 17% this year compared to Family Week 2025.
“For LGBTQ+ families, this week is about more than just fun in the sun,” said Darra Gordon, CEO of Family Equality. “This is my second Family Week as CEO, and so I can say with confidence that the magic of this event stretches far beyond the bounds of Provincetown or dates on a calendar. This week, we had conversations that matter — equipping families with the resources and information they need to navigate this moment — and through our regional family hubs, we’re bringing that same spirit of support into communities all year long. May we all bring the joy, community, and resilience that we tapped into this week into the work ahead.”
