Plans for Family Week Unveiled

Family Equality Council, the national organization which connects, supports, and represents the one million parents in the U.S. who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) and the two million children they are raising today announced preparations for the 17th annual Family Week to be held from July 28th to August 4th in Provincetown, MA.

“Family Week is the biggest event of our year,” said Family Equality Council Director of Programs Brent Wright. “It’s incredibly powerful to see families gathered together from all over the country. Many families don’t get to connect with one another in this way, and I’m honored that we can make this happen each year. It’s one way that we are creating a world where all loving families are recognized, respected, and celebrated.”

Highlights from the 2012 Week include:

  • Outspoken Generation Cafés and an Outspoken Generation Panel – Featuring Outspoken Generation Co-chair Zach Wahls, author of My Two Moms and national family advocate – By empowering youth with parents who are LGBT to speak out on behalf of their families, Family Week presents a unique opportunity for them to explore their leadership potential and grow as individuals.
  • Grandparents Gathering – In recognition of our new Pearls of Wisdom program for Grandparents in our community, the Grandparents Gathering will be a chance to hear from our grandparents and to come together to provide each other good advice, support, and friendship.
  • Family Unity & Pride Parade – Families will take to the streets of Ptown to celebrate 30 years of community, support, love, and commitment.
  • Fun Family Activities – Family Week features an entire week of activities for all generations including: youth adventures, arts and athletics camps, dances, campfires, happy hours, bouncy houses, arts exhibits, film screenings, and over fifty other community activities.
