November is National Adoption Month and we’re proud to celebrate this important designation that’s right in line with our work. Started as a week-long recognition in 1976 by Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis to promote awareness of the need for adoptive families for children in foster care, the month is a poignant time to bring awareness to the many issues around adoption.
In particular for LGBT New Yorkers, under current state law, the second parent adoption process is cumbersome and invasive (not to mention expensive), and it can often take months or more to complete.
