Illinois House Passes Marriage Equality
Marriage Equality Bill Heads Back to the Senate, Gov. to Sign

Washington DC – Nov. 5, 2013 – Family Equality Council, the national organization that represents the three million parents in our country who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and their six million children issued the following statement following the Illinois House vote passing Senate Bill 10, the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act. The bill will now head back to the Illinois Senate which overwhelmingly passed it on Valentine’s Day in February.

“This is a huge victory for families all over the Land of Lincoln,” said Gabriel Blau, Executive Director. “This win is especially meaningful for the more than 3,800 same-sex couples raising more than 7,600 children in Illinois who can tuck their children in tonight knowing their families are more secure, more accepted, and one step closer to full legal and social equality.”
