Family Equality Welcomes Frank Bua as Chair of Board of Directors

NEW YORK —  Family Equality, the nation’s leading organization for LGBTQ families and those who wish to form them, is pleased to announce the appointment of Frank Bua as incoming Chair of the organization’s Board of Directors. Bua has served as a member of the Board of Directors since 2013, and works as a writer, activist, and educator. He lives on Long Island with his husband, Scott, and their ten-year-old twins, Holden and Zoe.

“Serving on the Board of Family Equality has been one of the great privileges of my adult life, and I am humbled, flattered, and honored to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors for the next two years, leading our fight for lived and legal equality for LGBTQ families,” said incoming Chair of the Board of Directors Frank Bua. “Growing up in the shadows of AIDS was petrifying and delayed my ability to become my true self for a decade. Even after emerging from the closet, having children was unimaginable — yet somehow here I am with soon-to-be eleven-year-old twins. The world has changed, but not fast enough. Today, 63 percent of LGBTQ youth expect to have kids, and Family Equality continues to bend the arc of the moral universe towards justice. We have a responsibility to make the journey for the next generation easier. And we will.”

In his Board service to date, Bua has co-chaired the Night at the Pier gala for four years and continues to chair the event’s silent auction. As Vice-Chair of the Board for the past two years, Bua has focused on adapting the organization to the post-marriage equality landscape, assimilating Family Equality with its two recent mergers, and preparing the organization for the anticipated explosion of LGBTQ families nationwide. As Development Chair for the past four years, Bua helped spearhead the growth of Family Equality’s budget by almost 40 percent and remains one of the organization’s most prolific fundraisers.

Bua succeeds Erica Horton as Chair of the Family Equality Board of Directors, and is supported in the role by Kirk Fordham as Vice-Chair, Sunnie Kaufmann-Paulman as Secretary, and Tom Swan as Treasurer.
