Family Equality Honors 10th Anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges with a New Storytelling Campaign, “To Have and To Hold”

LGBTQ+ families from across the country are invited to submit stories, photos, articles, videos, and audio to be featured in Family Equality’s digital gallery, panel, and social media throughout the month of June.

New York, NY — Family Equality, the leading national organization for current and future LGBTQ+ families, invites families from around the country to submit their memories of marriage and the fight for marriage equality for a new storytelling project, To Have and To Hold

“Now more than ever, our families need to see their unions celebrated,” said Anna Santa Maria, Associate Director of Storytelling, Archives, and Brand. “But more so, we need to be able to tap into our history of joyful resistance. The fact is, LGBTQ+ people have been making vows to one another for far longer than ten years — and no matter what the future holds, we’ll continue to center our love, our joy, and our future in the way we move through the world. This new storytelling initiative aims to recognize and amplify that.”

All members of LGBTQ+ families are invited to participate in this project by submitting audio, video, and written stories of LGBTQ+ unions in their lives or their participation in the fight for marriage equality. They’re also encouraged to share photos of weddings, anniversaries, rings, invitations, vows, signs, buttons, merchandise, and more to illustrate the history of marriage and marriage equality in the United States.

Stories and photos will be shared in a digital gallery and on social media at the beginning of June. The gallery will launch with a special event featuring Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in Obergefell v. Hodges, and Family Equality policy team members.

Interested storytellers can share their story on our website: familyequality.org/haveandhold
