FAMILY EQUALITY COUNCIL STATEMENT ON DOLCE & GABANA’S ARCHAIC AND HARMFUL VIEWPOINT ON FAMILIES

The Family Equality Council condemns the archaic and harmful views expressed by designer duo Dolce & Gabana regarding LGBTQ adults parenting children. Although Gabbana said in a statement Sunday that “it was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love,” it is disheartening that they would use their influence in a way that could harm children as well as their LGBTQ parents.

Statement from Family Equality Council Executive Director Gabriel Blau: “It’s unfortunate and dangerous when people don’t respect our families. And the repercussions can be very harmful as others pick up on the message. But that two designers, who have been so supported by the LGBTQ community, have this terrible and uneducated view, will not deter us from our pursuit of equality. If anything, this is a lesson: we must work harder and reach farther in our work to engage and educate even those we might have once assumed are already on the side of LGBTQ rights and family values.” ### About Family Equality Council®: Family Equality Council® connects, supports, and represents the three million parents who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer in this country today and their six million children of all ages.
