Family Equality Council Applauds Marriage Equality Decision in Texas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ban on Marriage for Same-Sex Couples Ruled Unconstitutional Washington, DC, February 26, 2014 -Family Equality Council, the national organization which connects, supports, and represents the three million parents who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer in the United States and their six million children, praised today’s landmark decision by U.S. District Court Judge Orlando L. Garcia, who ruled the Texas ban on marriage for same-sex couples and the recognition of out-of-state marriages of same-sex couples, unconstitutional. “We’re thrilled that thousands of loving, committed, same-sex couples in the state of Texas are now a step closer to gaining the protections they need to take care of their families,” said Executive Director, Gabriel Blau. “On the heels of numerous marriage wins in states including Virginia, Utah, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Kentucky, this Texas ruling clearly shows that we are moving towards full equality for all families across the nation. We congratulate the plaintiff couples, Cleopatra DeLeon & Nicole Dimetman and Vic Holmes & Mark Phariss, and all who worked so hard on this case and look forward to seeing this ruling upheld.” ###
