Family Equality Council Announces Honorees for March 17 Los Angeles Impact Awards Gala

2018 Impact Awards to Honor Nate Berkus & Jeremiah Brent, and Johnson & Johnson Care with Pride™ Initiative.

February 28, 2018 — For Immediate Release

Family Equality Council, the nation’s leading organization for LGBTQ families and those who wish to form them, is delighted to announce the honorees for the 2018 Los Angeles Impact Awards, to be held at the Globe Theatre, Universal Studios on March 17.

Family Equality Council’s LA Impact Awards celebrate LGBTQ families and honor those who have made a significant impact in the fight for equality. This year Family Equality Council honors interior designer couple Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent with the 2018 Murray-Reese Family Award for sharing their family-building journey on national television. Nate and Jeremiah bring a warm, approachable LGBTQ family experience as they navigate parenthood with daughter Poppy on their show, Nate and Jeremiah By Design. The award will be presented by actor and good friend of Nate and Jeremiah, Armie Hammer.

“We both believe in opening up the doors and letting people know that we love the way you love. We eat dinner the way you eat dinner,” said Jeremiah Brent, ahead of the March 17 gala. “Everything about us is the same, and as cliché as the saying is, love is love. That’s exactly what the show is about.”

Family Equality Council’s 2018 Impact Awards also honors the Johnson & Johnson Care with Pride™ initiative. In their tradition of caring for families for over 100 years, Johnson & Johnson has been a strong voice in efforts to make the world a more caring and accepting place for LGBTQ families.

“Now in its seventh year, the Johnson & Johnson Care with Pride program continues to openly champion love, equality and care for the LGBTQ community,” said Reed Harris II, Johnson & Johnson Care with Pride Co-Lead who will accept the award with Care With Pride Co-Lead Kelly Fanning. “We are proud to partner with Family Equality Council to ensure all families are respected, loved, and celebrated.”

Partnering with the Johnson & Johnson Care with Pride initiative has amplified Family Equality Council’s ability to connect families through vital programs including Family Week in Provincetown and Pride events across the country. LGBTQ families recognize and value household brands that elevate LGBTQ families, helping to cultivate respect and equality for the LGBTQ community.

The Impact Award will be presented to Johnson & Johnson by actress and singer Olivia Holt, who also serves as brand ambassador for the company’s Neutrogena® brand.

Guests will also be treated to musical performances by Debby Holiday, Blake McIver, and Misty Odell, as part of an evening program introduced by emcee Alec Mapa.

“Across the country LGBTQ communities are under attack, and it’s more important than ever that we celebrate those who use their platform to advocate for our right to form our families, and protect our children from discrimination,” said Family Equality Council CEO Stan J. Sloan. “Loving families like Nate and Jeremiah’s and high impact programs like Care with Pride are exactly what we need to remind our country that love wins, and to remind America what real family values look like.”

The 2018 LA Impact Awards are chaired by Stuart Bell, David Marshall Grant, and Greg Berlanti, with vice-chairs Natalie Gluck Bergman and Jeffrey Arden Bernstein, and table host chairs Danielle Cooper and Seth Yanklewitz.
