NEW YORK — Today Family Equality Council, the nation’s leading nonprofit for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) families is pleased to announce the successful merger with Path2Parenthood, Inc., a leading national nonprofit providing educational family-building and reproductive health resources. Path2Parenthood brings to Family Equality Council over a decade of experience in supporting LGBTQ families through their family formation journeys, providing resources and in-person trainings explaining the pathways available through assisted reproduction, adoption, and foster care. With the merger complete, the vital work of Path2Parenthood will become the family-building platform of Family Equality Council, helping LGBTQ communities across the country navigate their own paths to parenthood.
The Rev. Stan J. Sloan, CEO of Family Equality Council, said:
“For almost forty years, Family Equality Council has been fighting to advance legal and lived equality for LGBTQ-headed families. Last year we responded to rapidly growing demand for family-building advice from the LGBTQ community by committing to expand our services for LGBTQ people who want to form families. By merging with Path2Parenthood, Family Equality Council is now the nation’s only comprehensive organization serving LGBTQ families, from the family planning stage, through becoming parents, to thriving as a part of the rapidly growing number of LGBTQ families across the country.”
“Path2Parenthood has been providing family-building advice and expertise for over thirty years, and has always specialized in developing resources for communities with unique needs in forming families,” said Don Hribek, Chair of the Path2Parenthood Board of Directors. “In the past decade, Path2Parenthood has become a leader in family-building education for the LGBTQ community, and we are delighted to expand these services as part of Family Equality Council’s comprehensive programming for LGBTQ families and those who wish to form them.”
Family Equality Council and Path2Parenthood’s merger could not be more timely. Recent research indicates that over 6 million 18-35 year olds in the US identify as LGBTQ, and that a majority of them are considering starting or growing their families.
With the merger complete, all Path2Parenthood staff members have joined the Family Equality Council team, and Path2Parenthood will operate as an educational program of Family Equality Council. To learn more about the Path2Parenthood program, visit familyequality.org/p2p.
