Despite the many struggles faced by the community, LGBTQ people are not a “protected class” for the purposes on non-discrimination laws that prevent discrimination on the basis of race, sex, national origin, etc. For this reason, LGBTQ people are still highly susceptible to facing discrimination in many arenas of daily life, including employment, housing, access to public accommodations, and more. Fortunately, there are legislative and regulatory initiatives aiming to create more space for LGBTQ people within non-discrimination law.
