About a week and a half ago we told our Boston-area supporters
about an exciting opportunity to counter the hate of Fred
Phelps, infamous leader of the Westboro Baptist Church. Phelps
and crew were planning to protest Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School, located
not too far from our national office here in downtown Boston.

Cambridge Rindge and Latin has one of the oldest gay-straight
alliances in the country–Project 10 East. Members of the Cambridge GLBT Commission organized a clever
counterprotest–a Phelps-a-Thon, raising money for Project 10 East
and the Welcoming Schools resource center for LGBT families
for every minute Phelps was there.
In total, the group raised $3,500 for these great
endeavors. We want to thank, especially, our Boston-area
families who participated in the Phelps-a-Thon–online, in person
or both! If you’re one of those families, leave a comment and tell
us what it was like to be there or why you donated.
