families. We were proud to be involved in two important events in
Washington D.C. and Florida aimed at changing hearts and minds by
first changing outdated laws.
On March 13th, Washington D.C. played host to about 200 people at
the Freedom to Serve Rally. In a year of change, this rally,
organized by SLDN
(Servicemembers Legal Defense Network) urged members of Congress to
repeal the 13-year-old “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law banning
openly LGBT Americans from serving in the military. Family Equality
Council invited our supporters nationwide to participate in the

We are also proud of our work in assisting Equality Florida draft a bill to support
domestic partnership in Florida. We joined forces with our Florida
friends to co-sponsor the Rally in Tally, held March 16th in
support of this bill and others, including the recently introduced
repeal of Florida’s infamous ban on gays and lesbians adopting
children. The case to repeal this ban got even stronger recently
when the Williams Institute released a new report estimating the
ban on gay and lesbian parents costs Florida an extra $2.5 million
