Today, a recommended diary on DailyKos, tells the story of a couple
who did all the paperwork (wills, health papers, etc) and had a
“civil union” in Vermont. One of the two tragically dies while they
both were living in New York (possibly due to negligence of the
hospital) and the other is denied by NY state the right to sue the
hospital or obtain workman’s comp benefits (his spouse died from
work-related injuries). This isn’t to mention the rights and
benefits that of course are denied by the federal government
(social security). Read
the whole story.
