gone by and still no cure, and families are still being destroyed
and the public push for a cure has waned.
World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1st. The World
Health Organization established World AIDS Day in 1988. World AIDS
Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness and focus attention
on the global AIDS epidemic.
According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, an
estimated 38.6 million people worldwide are living with HIV and
more than 25 million people having died of AIDS since 1981. The
United States, like other nations around the world, is deeply
affected by HIV/AIDS. More than one million people in the U.S. are
living with HIV and there are approximately 40,000 new cases of HIV
every year.
We need everyone to get involved so no other family has to be
impacted by this terrible disease.
- Get a HIV test. Send a text message with your zip code to
KNOWIT (566948) to find your nearest testing center. Or go to
www.HIVTest.org - Wear a Red Ribbon on Dec 1st to show your support for the
millions who have HIV. Awareness and Prevention go hand in
hand! - Make a donation to an organization that helps families deal
with the effects of HIV/AIDS. - Encourage your college/university or your children’s schools
to integrate HIV awareness/discussions into the health curriculum,
for example. - Search the web and find another way to get involved that is
meaningful to you.
Wouldn’t it be great if in our lifetime we see AIDS stopped and
keep the promise of ending this disease? Let’s do our part.
