We’re all in this together: GivingTuesday with Family Equality

GivingTuesday, the global day of giving, is upon us! Now more than ever, Family Equality needs the support of people like you to continue our work to protect and support the rights of LGBTQ+ families. Learn how you can celebrate GivingTuesday with a gift of hope for LGBTQ+ families on December 3 below!

What we can achieve when we work together

It’s no secret that our families are facing challenging realities. This year, more than 550 anti-LGBTQ+ bills were introduced in state legislatures, many of which targeted LGBTQ+ youth and families specifically. Unfortunately, these bills don’t occur in a vacuum, and we’ve witnessed increasing anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric from politicians, school boards, neighbors, and more.

But Family Equality knows what can happen when we all work together, like families do. Thanks to generous support from people like you:

  • We restored compassion to the classroom with our historic settlement in the case against Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay and Trans” legislation. Because of our lawsuit with Florida families and fellow equality organizations, we rolled back key discriminatory provisions in this now infamous law, essentially nullifying its effects.
  • Hundreds of LGBTQ+ families joined us for community-building events across the country, including Family Week in Provincetown (aka the largest annual gathering of LGBTQ+ families in the world), LGBTQ+ Families are Incredi-Bowl in New York, and Family Weekend in the Midwest.
  • We launched expert resources and hosted webinars to help equip and empower people to make decisions about their families, including our state-by-state foster care guide
  • Throughout the year, Family Equality convinced legislators to defeat harmful, anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in states like Louisiana, Colorado, Vermont, and New York. We also pushed forward pro-equality legislation, improving Michigan’s assisted reproduction and surrogacy law and passing the Massachusetts Parentage Act — just to name a few.

What we’re doing works! In 2023, thanks to our efforts and those of our movement partners, 87% of the anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced failed to become law and 20% of the pro-equality bills were secured and signed into law!

Now is the time to give

With the year coming to a close, and the holiday season beginning in earnest, we couldn’t imagine a better — or more important — time to give. GivingTuesday is more than just a global day of giving. It’s a reminder that everyone has a role to play in the movement for love, family, and freedom.

As you consider which organizations to support on December 3, we invite you to give to Family Equality so we can continue:

  1. Providing LGBTQ+ families with the critical support and information they need to make informed decisions about themselves and their families;
  2. Creating spaces for LGBTQ+ families to feel safe and loved;
  3. Sharing the stories of LGBTQ+ families so the truth of who we are cannot be twisted;
  4. Pushing back against anti-LGBTQ+ forces and moving forward on the path towards progress.

And, in case you needed even more of a reason to give: Thanks to the incredibly generous matching challenge issued by Ferring Pharmaceuticals, you can double your impact! Every dollar raised, up to $10,000, will be matched.
