Luce M. Remy (She/ Her) is new to the Family Equality team as of 2023 and serves as VP for Public Policy. In the role she plans to continue expanding Family Equality’s ability to provide the needed information and advocacy for LGBTQ+ families, heterosexual families, and every family.
Luce began her career working in human rights advocacy and grass-roots capacity building. In the United Nations (UN), she held positions as a Human Rights and Political Affairs officer while stationed in Sudan, Ethiopia, Italy, and New York. She assisted in peace negotiations between the government and rebel factions in Darfur, Sudan; coordinated troop deployment and protection of civilian strategies with the African Union; trained UN staff on human rights norms; and prepared reports and talking points for the UN Secretary-General. After leaving the UN, Luce consulted with organizations in both the private and public sector to lead federal & state advocacy efforts, strategic planning, and policy implementation. She finds her work most rewarding when she is able to translate abstract principles of human rights and the law into tangible policies that improve people’s lives.
Luce hails from Washington, D.C., and attended Columbia University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Theater and Political Science (to the confusion of her family and friends). She went on to graduate from Georgetown University Law Center and clerked for the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. If you catch her on a weekday after work or during the weekends, you might find her doing pilates, knitting, and tending to her plant babies in her garden. She aspires to one day have a family like the ones she is fighting for at Family Equality.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When not working you can find me knitting. It is very meditative and you end up with a functional object. Other times I am taking Pilates classes or going to a theater performance.
What drives you to do this work?
What drives me is the core belief that every human is entitled to a life of dignity, opportunity, and love. However much I can do to push society into being that type of world, I will gladly do it.
What does family equality mean to you?
It means having equal access to ALL the options for creating and protecting our families.
