A letter from Gabriel Blau, New Executive Director

Like your family, my family finds Fall to be an exciting time of transition- a time for us to pack away our sandals and sunscreen and our summer memories so we can return to days filled with carpools, soccer games, and PTA meetings.

It’s also an exciting and energizing time of transition for Family Equality Council.

As I begin my second week as Executive Director, I am so impressed by the accomplishments of this past summer. From the historic win for marriage equality at the Supreme Court, to the awe-inspiring gathering of hundreds at Family Week, to the recent announcement by the IRS that our married families will be recognized as married for tax purposes, no matter where they live, together we have achieved policy wins and created communities that ensure that families with parents who are LGBT have equal access to the American dream.

Thanks to the hard work of our professional staff and leadership of our Board, we have strengthened our efforts to win social and legal equality for families with parents who are LGBT.

Those successes are also because of you. Thanks to your support, this treasured organization has grown to become one of the most important and successful voices in the continued efforts for equality.

But we are not done. I am humbled by both the responsibility and the opportunity to now play a part in helping this effective and respected organization make this country a better place for everyone. My promise to you is that we will do everything in our power to build on the work done to support all of our families. Together we will continue this critical work to advocate for the millions of American families that deserve equality.

Over the next months I hope to meet many of you to thank you for your commitment and to share how we will continue to look out for families across the country. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to share your thoughts, your family story, and your hopes for an America that values families. I look forward to changing the world with you.
