Finding answers with Family Equality

As we embark on a presidential election year with states across the country considering legislation that impacts our families, we know how uncertain this moment might feel. That’s why we’ve kicked off the year with a number of amazing virtual and in-person events, resources, and initiatives that seek to equip our families with the tools and community they need to thrive.

Hundreds of passionate parents and advocates have joined us for webinars about:

Hundreds more have made their voice heard by participating in our 2024 Family Equity Justice Survey, a facet of our Family Equity Justice Project that seeks to better understand the diverse needs and experiences of our families.

In times like these, it’s more important than ever that LGBTQ+ families feel seen, supported, and protected. That’s what Family Equality is all about

Sharing our stories

Our stories are powerful agents of change. Check out some of the ways that Family Equality has been sharing — and protecting — LGBTQ+ family stories below:

Julie Schanke Lyford and her family

(Re)Introducing the Outspoken Generation series

In January, we re-launched our Outspoken Generation series to highlight the voices of adult children with LGBTQ+ parents. Explore Julie’s and Freya’s stories today!

Taking action against book bans

In recent years, a growing number of book bans have arisen around the country. For concerned parents, educators, and students, our Director of Education Law and Policy, Senior Policy Counsel, Nikhil, shares how you can take action!

From the expert: Legal parentage and queer families

Why is it imperative that LGBTQ+ parents consult a lawyer when expanding their family? Our very own Director of LGBTQ+ Family Law and Policy, Senior Policy Counsel Meg York shared her expertise with Tagg Magazine this January.

The Road Ahead

As 2024 gets into full swing, we’re setting our sights on what’s ahead: Fiercely protecting our families through policy work, storytelling, and building resilience in the community. But we need your help.

The dangerous policies and rhetoric coming from our elected officials has trickled down: School boards and political pundits are crafting harmful narratives about who our families are, LGBTQ+ centers have been vandalized, Pride parades are being targeted, and doctors providing gender-affirming care have been threatened. We’re fighting a well-funded anti-LGBTQ+ machine the likes of which we haven’t seen in years — and the only way we’re going to change the tide in the year ahead is if we all work together.
