Throughout the month of February, Family Equality Council is celebrating Black History Month by honoring the accomplishments, contributions, and lives of LGBT Black Americans, past and present.
Bill T. Jones (2/15/52- )- Dancer and choreographer. Throughout his career, Jones has created over 100 works for the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, which he co-founded in 1982 with his late partner Arnie Zane. In addition, Jones has worked with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, the Boston Ballet, and many more. Jones’ work has dealt with topics such as race, faith, sexuality, and HIV/AIDS. He was awarded a MacArthur fellowship in 1994, and went on to win two Tony Awards for his Broadway choreography (Spring Awakening and Fela!). In 2010, Jones received the Kennedy Center Honors.
