New York, NY — Family Equality invites LGBTQ+ families across the country to join us for LGBTQ+ Families for Black Lives Day of Action on Tuesday, June 23. The Day of Action seeks to empower families to deepen their anti-racism work through tangible, age-appropriate action ranging from coloring book pages to writing elected officials.
“With this special of Day of Action, we stand with the millions of people across the US and around the world, marching to raise awareness of the many injustices facing the Black community,” said Serena Johnson, chief program officer at Family Equality. “As the leading national organization for LGBTQ+ families, our goal is to build sustainable programs and provide ongoing resources for our families to support the change we want to see. The fight must not stop when the hashtags and protests end.”
Activities for the LGBTQ+ Families for Black Lives Day of Action are divided into age categories, with activities for our youngest children (ages 0–4), 5–9 year-olds, youth aged 10–15, and young adults aged 15+. Find complete information and access the toolkit at https://www.familyequality.org/resources/lgbtq-families-for-black-lives/.
In the coming days, we encourage you to boost the Day of Action on social media using the hashtag #LGBTQFamiliesForBlackLives. Then, inspire a ripple effect of action in support of Black Lives by using the hashtag #LGBTQFamiliesforBlackLives on June 23 to tell everyone about your family’s participation.
It is our hope that this toolkit will help LGBTQ+ families maintain conversations in our households and communities that will continue long after LGBTQ+ Families for Black Lives Day of Action ends.
