A federal judge in California accelerated the battle
over same-sex marriage Thursday by giving the green light for such
marriages to begin in that state next week unless a higher court
steps in.The new order from U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker said
such marriages can begin Aug. 18 under the landmark ruling he
issued last week holding California’s voter-approved ban on
same-sex marriages to be unconstitutional.
