60 years since Dr. Martin Luther King and other legendary Civil Rights Leaders led the historic March on Washington, Family Equality is proud to help commemorate and continue the fight for a more just and equitable democracy.
Family Equality is honored to be a Community Partner along with the Drum Major Institute and the National Action Network for the upcoming 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington on Saturday, August 26. We are so excited to join Rev. Al Sharpton, members of Martin Luther King, Jr’s family, and other prominent civil rights and social justice advocates — and you can join us too! We’re inviting LGBTQ+ families from all corners to join us in Washington D.C. for this historic moment.
In January, March convenors Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder & President of the National Action Network, Martin Luther King, III, Board Chairman of the Drum Major Institute, and Arndrea Waters King, Chairman, and President of Drum Major Institute, announced the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington at the NAN MLK Day Breakfast in Washington, D.C. It was a moving celebration of Dr. King’s legacy, but it was also a reminder that this march is an opportunity to recenter our mission. This is an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come and how far we have to go.
This year, we’ve endured devastating attacks on our most basic human rights from state legislators, policymakers, and even the Supreme Court. This cannot go on. We must use our shared power to step up and make ourselves heard. To quote President Biden in his address at the NAN MLK Day Breakfast, “There’s nothing beyond our capacity — nothing, nothing, nothing — if we do it together.”
At Family Equality, we’re proud to be part of the important work ahead to protect marginalized communities and resurrect our democracy. Finding ways for people to feel seen, safe, and protected drives us to do this critical work for families across the country. We are committed to making an impact through the continuation of the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington.
As part of our partnership, we’re inviting our families to attend the March on Washington. If you’re interested in being a part of history and accompanying Family Equality for this historic event, visit the registration link below. In addition to the march, we’re planning opportunities for LGBTQ+ families to connect on the evening of Friday, August 25 and Sunday, August 27. Details to come! Completing this form will ensure you hear about all of the plans!
