Family Equality Council’s Los Angeles Impact Awards celebrates LGBTQ families and honors those who have made a significant impact in the fight for equality. The 2018 LA Impact Awards take place on March 17, and this year we are excited to recognize interior designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent with the 2018 Murray-Reese Family Award for sharing their family-building journey on national television. Nate and Jeremiah bring a warm, approachable LGBTQ family experience as they navigate parenthood with daughter Poppy on their show, Nate and Jeremiah By Design. The award will be presented by actor and good friend of Nate and Jeremiah, Armie Hammer.
“The truth is we’re fueled by love, we love our daughter, we love being at home,” Nate contends. “I like cooking. I like playing with her. I like being with my husband. And I think it’s an opportunity to show people that the main commonality is love.”
On the ever-popular TLC show, the designer duo helps clients navigate the ins and outs of their troubled renovations, saving their homes, their time and their money. However, the real treat is the window they share into their home life every week.
Berkus and Brent are clear about the importance of sharing their family life with a national audience:
“You can see that we’re just like you,” Jeremiah shares . “We both believe in opening up the doors and letting people know that we love the way you love. We eat dinner the way you eat dinner. Everything about us is the same, and as cliche as the saying is, love is love. That’s exactly what the show is about.”
With the recent announcement of a new addition to the family, Family Equality Council is excited to continue sharing in their family journey.
