In this month’s episode of Outspoken Voices, Emily talks with Jane Barber, a nurse and adaptive sports professional with a passion for yoga and mindfulness. Emily and Jane discuss how to overcome some barriers to healthy practices and why self-care isn’t selfish, but rather valuable for our families.
Meet Our Guest
Jane Barber is a nurse and adaptive sports professional with a passion for bringing healing through sports to people living with disability, injury or the effects of trauma. She has taught adaptive skiing with Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) in Breckenridge, Colorado for the past 15 years. Three years ago she had the inspiration to pursue yoga teacher training so that she could bring yoga to her adaptive skiing clients. Her yoga journey began 20 years ago but did not become a central part of her life until she sustained an injury during the 2015-2016 ski season. In addition to adding yoga to her instructional tool box at BOEC, she also teaches yoga with Spaulding Adaptive Sports on Cape Cod in the summer and Yoga Reach of Cleveland, Ohio in the spring and fall. She is delighted to be a part of the Family Equality Council and delights in the opportunity to bring yoga and mindfulness to its family members.
