Capital Pride 2012: A success!!

Capital Pride 2012 weekend is over and left me with only happy memories! It was my first Pride parade and festival in the United States (I’m from Cyprus) and I couldn’t be happier, both at a personal and at a professional level.

Besides watching the parade this past Saturday, I was fortunate enough to participate in the festival on Sunday where Family Equality Council had a table. The turnout was amazing! We collected over 550 signatures in support of the Every Child Deserves a Family Act (HR 1681/S1770), a federal bill that would help open up more homes for the 100,000 children in foster care across the country by prohibiting discrimination against LGBT parents.

During the festival, Family Equality Council offered free family portraits. It felt great to see the smiling faces of 50 families posing for our camera. We extend our ‘Thanks” to the organizers of Capital Pride, all the volunteers, and to everyone who attended the parade and festival. I cannot help myself from wishing every weekend was a weekend of acceptance and celebration for all of our families!

Check out all the smiling faces here.
