Family Equality’s 2011 Interns, Part 2

Continuing our introductions of our 2011 interns, here’s a post
from Elliot Kennedy, our Public Policy Intern in our Washington, DC
office.

This spring I am working part time as a public policy intern for
Emily Hecht-McGowan and Heron Greenesmith at the Family Equality
Council in Washington, D.C. So far, my work here has involved doing
research on state foster care and adoption policies, military
benefit regulations that impact LGBT families, and state safe
school laws.

I am currently a second-year law student at American
University Washington College of Law focusing on public interest
law. Though I have yet to decide whether through litigation or
policy on a state or federal level, I hope to pursue a career in
LGBT advocacy with a focus on transgender civil
rights.
