Family Equality Council mourns the passing on Friday of Adele Star,
first president of Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and
Gays (PFLAG). Ms. Starr’s home served as the first office for the
now-national organization; she and her husband invited 35 people
into their den for the first meeting of the group of parents and
families with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender loved
ones.
Ms. Starr’s commitment to family brought compassion and depth to
the LGBT community. Family Equality Council is sad to lose this
pillar of the movement, but is grateful for her enduring
contributions.
