If it hasn’t already, school is starting soon. It’s an exciting
time, but it can also be stressful.
Parents worry about how their child is treated by other students.
Will they get teased for having LGBT parents? Will they be made fun
of for being who they are? What will the school bullies do?
As you may know, Family Equality Council is working to
pass anti-bullying legislation at the national and state level.
LGBT children and children of LGBT parents are often the most
vulnerable to bullying and harassment.
To ensure that all children feel safe, supported and valued in
school, help us pass the Student Non-Discrimination Act by
contacting your federal lawmakers today. Once you find your
legislators (click
here), call them at (202) 224-3121. Tell them to support this
piece of legislation that is so fundamental in maintaining a
discrimination-free environment for learning.
If your child has been the victim of bullying or any
discrimination at school, please let us know! Submit your story
here. If you and they are comfortable, we would love to hear
from your children directly if they have experienced harassment.
Your stories are what will convince lawmakers and the public that
this legislation should be passed.
Thanks for being such good parents.
