Obergefell: Ten Years Later

2025 marks the 10 year anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court case that granted marriage equality nationwide. But the fact is, LGBTQ+ people have been making vows to one another for far longer than ten years — and no matter what the future holds, we’ll continue to center our love, our joy, and our future in the way we move through the world.

To recognize and amplify this message, Family Equality is looking for photos, video, audio, and stories that chronicle the history and magic of LGBTQ+ unions — before and after Obergefell as well as during the height of the fight for marriage equality — to celebrate and tap into our long history of joyful resistance. Do you have a story to tell or photo to share about your own marriage, the marriage of your parents or family members, or your involvement in the fight for marriage equality? Fill out the form below!

Materials will be shared online and on social media at the beginning of June, starting with a special virtual event featuring Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in Obergefell v. Hodges
