DESCRIPTION:Reading is what? FUNdamental! Join us for a casual family discussion of Tales from Beyond the Rainbow: Ten LGBTQ+ Fairy Tales Proudly Reclaimed by Pete Jordi Wood. Together\, we’ll chat about fairytales\, representation\, and happy endings and close out our talk by sharing resources to help you and your family advocate for more inclusive books in and out of the classroom. You can pick up Tales from Beyond the Rainbow at your local library\, for free through the Queer Liberation Library\, or purchase it from our preferred local vendor\, Main Street Books. While the book is marketed to middle graders\, adults may find “it makes a thrilling read-aloud for younger ages as well.”  \n\n\n\n\nRegister today!\n\n\n\n\nAbout Book Nook: An LGBTQ+ Book Club\n\n\n\nAccording to PEN America\, there were nearly 7\,000 instances of book bans affecting nearly 4\,000 unique titles in schools and libraries for the 2024-2025 school year. At a time when stories about LGBTQ+ people and families are under attack from politicians and school boards\, Family Equality’s in-person Book Nook meeting will create a space where families can connect and see themselves reflected in the media.  \n\n\n\nThe book club is intended to be an informal book club for families with school-aged children. It will include an introduction to the material\, reflection questions\, and the opportunity for families to provide feedback on what this programming should look like long-term. Through this program\, families will explore storytelling from diverse communities and create their own connections.
