SUMMARY:Social Justice Education: Criminal Justice and the LGBTQ+ Community
DESCRIPTION:You may have heard that COVID-19 is ravaging jails\, prisons\, and detention centers across the U.S. But did you know that LGBTQ+ people are more likely to be incarcerated than our non-LGBTQ+ counterparts? Did you know that LGBTQ+ people are more likely to be serving life sentences and are more likely to be held in solitary confinement than others? If you’ve ever wanted to learn about America’s criminal justice system and how it uniquely impacts the LGBTQ+ community\, join Family Equality for this interactive session offered in partnership with Beyond These Walls and Our Family Coalition. Our three organizations are pleased to offer this unique opportunity for LGBTQ+ families to learn more about our community members living behind bars. You’ll also learn how to take action today to provide immediate relief to prisoners impacted by COVID-19.\n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT. \n\nBeyond These Walls provides direct support\, education\, and advocacy for and with LGBTQ+ prisoners in the Pacific NW (and trans prisoners everywhere). They are currently running an active COVID-19 Crisis Line for incarcerated people and their families\, in addition to overseeing several prisoner leadership programs behind bars.\n\nOur Family Coalition advances equity for lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, and queer (LGBTQ) families with children through support\, education\, and advocacy. They offer workshops\, support groups\, outings\, seasonal celebrations\, meet-ups\, classes\, play dates and referrals for LGBTQ families in San Francisco and the East Bay\, and will be providing many of those regular programs online for the duration of the current pandemic.

SUMMARY:WORLD PREMIERE: 10 Minute Heart-Brain Connection Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday for a much-needed 10 minute break to your week—or tune in later to watch anytime you’re in need of some brain and body refreshment!\n\nOur heart is more than just an organ\, it’s an expansive energy center. There are more nerve connections between the heart and the brain than any other system in the body – in fact\, 90% of these connecting fibers ascend from the heart up to the brain. These neural pathways are constantly sending signals that interact with the brain’s higher cognitive and emotional centers\, and it has been scientifically proven that practicing positive emotions both increases intuition and promotes creativity.\n\nThis bite-sized workshop will start with a brief lesson about the heart-brain connection and end with an uplifting\, heart centered meditation to evoke full body balance.  Leave feeling refreshed and radiant! \n\nAbout Amanda Leaveck\nAmanda Leaveck specializes in helping high achievers slow down\, find balance\, and flow through life with more ease. Through a neuroscience-based curriculum\, yoga\, meditation\, and honoring the earth’s cycles and seasons\, her clients learn tangible skills to help them live more delicious lives.  In addition to attaining a B.S. in Neuroscience at the University of Saint Thomas\, she graduated from the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in 2017\, where she focused on the integral relationship between connective tissue and the nervous system.  Through coaching\, yoga\, meditation\, online courses\, and her virtual learning platform\, Science & Magic\, Amanda offers services that connect us all more deeply to our brilliant human bodies. You can follow Amanda and her virtual learning platform here: @scienceandmagicofficial.
