DESCRIPTION:Tune in on Youtube \nTune in on Facebook \nThrough the many ways LGBTQ+ individuals have formed families\, one of the most overlooked formed families—and the home to many Black and Brown queer folks—is the ballroom community and culture. In this interview\, Family Equality’s Chief Program Officer\, Serena Johnson\, sits down with Jey’nce Poindexter\, the Iconic House Mother of the Legendary House of Mizrahi\, to talk about her experiences of working to build acknowledgment from the greater LGBTQ+ community and local nonprofits of her formed family as a home to many LGBTQ+ displaced youth and adults. \nJey’nce Poindexter is a nationally acclaimed advocate for the LGBTQ community. She serves as a voice for survivors of racial injustice\, domestic violence\, sexual assault\, partner-on-partner violence\, and HIV/AIDS. Jey’nce is the Trans Sistas of Color Project’s vice president and a co-chair of the Fair and Equal initiative. She recently joined the staff of the Ruth Ellis Center. \n
